Perfume Masses by Hans Koesters

Statement

Hans Koesters is an artist and designer based in Los Angeles. His training in both art and architecture situates the work at the intersection of the two disciplines.

The precursors to the drawings/paintings in the show originally served as additional diagnostic tools for the imaging and mapping of an architectural project at irregular intervals throughout the design process. They were simultaneously recordings and directives for further exploration in a digital environment. Although early iterations of these paintings were produced in parallel to a specific architectural project, the work in this show was produced without attachment to a specific brief. Here, the details of the painting elements act as augmented artifacts of conceptual and perceptual ideas that underpin larger architectural outcomes relative to building and landscape.
