Cronus House: is an additional dwelling unit providing higher density living in the El Sereno neighborhood of Los Angeles. Graphic concrete diagonal stripes give striking presence to the yard to encourage shared outdoor living to the three units on the lot. The existing garage is enlarged into an open terrace suggesting an ambiguity of functions with a tucked in sculptural stair leading up to a secreted atelier. Details throughout the apartments play with notations of boundary. The master bath wet zone is co-planar and open to the bedroom while terrazzo tile inlay are shaped by door swings. From the hardscaping to medicine cabinets, Cronus House expands the possibilities of R-1 zoning.
