Shelter: Rethinking How We Live in Los Angeles

On August 20, 2015 A+D Museum presented Shelter: Rethinking How We Live in Los Angeles, featuring the imaginative work of Los Angeles-based architecture and design practices Bureau Spectacular, LA Más, Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects, MAD Architects, PAR, and wHY.

The inaugural exhibition at A+D’s new home in the Los Angeles Arts District, Shelter challenged these architects and designers to create new residential solutions responding to the city’s increasing density, decreasing buildable land, new transit offerings, growing diversity, ballooning costs, and intense environmental challenges. To engage these conditions, Shelter participants created single or multi-family plans for a stretch of the Wilshire Corridor or along the Los Angeles River; exploring fresh new inspirations for L.A.’s diverse housing typologies.

Shelter: Rethinking How We Live in Los Angeles was organized by A+D Architecture and Design Museum Los Angeles and co-curated by Sam Lubell and Danielle Rago. Exhibition design by the AECOM Los Angeles Design Studio.
