John has been the urban designer for West Hollywood for the past 11 years. He began writing about architecture in 1975 in a series of articles and books. The most recent of these is LA 2000 +. His anthology Glitter Stucco and Dumpster Diving won the runner-up award from PEN for best book on the Visual Arts for the year 2000.
He has worked in architecture and interior design firms, been an Imagineer at the Walt Disney Company, and was briefly architecture critic for the Los Angeles Times. Mr. Chase is on the board of the Westside Urban Forum and the board of the California State AIA magazine arcCA, and is the co-chairperson of the Los Angeles chapter AIA Urban Design Committee with Stephanie Reich. He graduated with an M.Arch from UCLA in 1982.
