getty intern + student luncheon Lemonade, astro-turf, and paper wedding gowns -- just another typical Tuesday afternoon at the A+D. During the opening weeks of our summer 2007 exhibit SAUMA [DESIGN AS CULTURAL INTERFACE] A+D played host to a casual picnic with contemporary Finnish designer Tuija Järvenpää and Getty interns and Art Center students to discuss the exhibit, her work, and design culture.
Tuija's piece "wedding
gown" is a one-time use only recyclable paper wedding dress. An
industrial designer by training, Tuija explained how her interest in
making disposable products led to the inspiration behind the
dispensable dress. In addition to this, she spoke about the SAUMA group of designers and the underlying themes of contemporary Finnish design.
