The Los Angeles Chapter of the American Institute of Architects proudly announces the opening of its second annual 2x8 Exhibition of student design. The show opens at the A+D Museum on Saturday, February 21 with a reception from 6–9 PM, and runs through April 2. The A+D Museum is located on the ground floor of 8560 West Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood.

2x8 is an annual exhibition showcasing student projects from local architecture and design institutions . Each project is chosen, not only for its excellence, but because it exemplifies the core values and vision of its host institution. 2x8 spotlights the unequalled diversity of educational directions available to design students in the Los Angels area.
This year’s title and theme, “Groundworks,” refers to the pool of talented students currently setting the foundations for the future of design — breaking new ground, laying new ground, covering new ground — and gives rise to a host of other images and ideas. These range from natural and artificial landscapes and topographies to new mapping and zoning strategies that might shape our environment.
Groundworks” is the inaugural event celebrating a new scholarship program sponsored by the AIA/LA. Emblematic of the AIA/LA’s investment in the next generation of design talent, scholarships will be awarded to selected student participants to aid them in their future design research. The ultimate goal is to foster a stronger connection between professionals and students.
Finally, during the course of the exhibition, one afternoon will be set aside for public review of the exhibited projects by a distinguished panel of design professionals and theorists. Participating schools will include Art Center College of Design, CalPoly Pomono, Los Angeles Institute of Architecture & Design, Otis College of Art and Design, SCI–ARC, UCLA, UCLA Extension, USC, Woodbury University, and Pasadena City College.
Please join us at the A+D Museum on February 21, as we honor the outstanding talent of those who will give form to our future. Visit www.aplusd.org or call 310.659.2445 for more information.
