UPCYCLING:
Recuperating Past Lives
May 8, 2009 - May 24, 2009
Upcycling: recuperating past lives examines the use of rehabilitated materials in the context of art and design. The exhibition contends with artists who use recuperative strategies by mobilizing the existing, the found, and the reclaimed towards transformative material ends where the final object retains the material qualities and past lives of that which was used in its making. Upcycling: recuperating past lives was produced in collaboration with the Canadian Consulate in Los Angeles and gratefully acknowledges the support of Los Angeles’ Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), and of the Canadian Heritage Trade Routes contribution program.
